Cold Frame Planted with Fresh Vegetables

We believe that honest labor produces an honest product.  Consider the ant as she gathers what she needs little by little with no overseer or ruler and provides food in the summer and reaps at harvest.  Without worrying about tomorrow, we can live presently and work diligently as our Creator provides all that we need.  Such is the design of Creation and such is the design of Twin Arcs Farm.

We live in an age where information and resources are readily available to those who seek it out.   From building a cold frame to constructing a chicken co-op, from building fertile soil to constructing a business plan, all we can achieve is based on the perception we have of what is possible.  In our search and study, we discovered Permaculture and Square-Foot Gardening; two essential techniques for any micro-farm operation.

Permaculture integrates land, resources, people and the environment through mutually beneficial synergies – imitating no waste, closed loop systems as seen in diverse natural systems. Permaculture studies and applies holistic solutions to land including agriculture, water harvesting, energy, natural building, forestry, waste management, animal systems, appropriate technology, economics and community development. Square-foot gardening is a crop intensive method where plants are placed in a garden based on squares instead of rows.  Each section of gardening space holds a different vegetable, flower, or herb in a square-foot.  This approach allows for more plants to be in the same space allowing for diversity that encourages plant growth and discourages pests.  This eliminates the need for chemical intervention which promotes harmony with the environment and every living species.
