The status-quo of being served whatever the local supermarket provides is being challenged. This is part of the reason why you’re here. You want to get to know your farmer, how and what they grow, and be a part of the movement to bring locally grown food back to your family dinner table. We take that very seriously.
Rest assured that we are doing our best by applying the most efficient, earth-conscious agricultural methods to our land. Specifically, two leading approaches: permaculture and square-foot gardening. So, here we go.
Permaculture integrates land, resources, people and the environment through mutually beneficial synergies – imitating no waste, closed loop systems as seen in diverse natural systems. Permaculture studies and applies holistic solutions to land including agriculture, water harvesting, energy, natural building, forestry, waste management, animal systems, appropriate technology, economics and community development. Square-foot gardening is a crop intensive method where plants are placed in a garden based on squares instead of rows. Each section of gardening space holds a different vegetable, flower, or herb in a square-foot. This approach allows for more plants to be in the same space allowing for diversity that encourages plant growth and discourages pests. This eliminates the need for chemical intervention which promotes harmony with the environment and every living species. [credit Mel Bartholomew]
